Common informal term for a woman or girlfriend in the Río de la Plata region. Not inherently disrespectful between friends, though context matters.

One of the most emblematic Rioplatense words. Between close friends it can be completely affectionate and means something closer to 'dude' or 'man'. Used as a genuine insult toward strangers or in anger.

Used metaphorically to mean someone was left emotionally devastated, usually after a romantic situation. The literal meaning is the food 'pâté', but the slang meaning comes from the idea of something completely flattened or mashed.

Classic Rioplatense interjection used to get someone's attention or address a friend. Can open a sentence, interrupt, or soften a request. So embedded in Uruguayan and Argentine speech that it often goes unnoticed.

Literally 'stop screwing around'. Can express disbelief, frustration, or playful dismissal depending on tone. Common among friends and not always confrontational.

Literally 'you're not well / you're unwell', but used colloquially to tell someone their idea or behavior is unreasonable, absurd, or out of line. Usually said with exasperation or light mockery.
