Chapter 13: The Black Hound

A very common exclamation of exasperation, disbelief, or mild frustration. Despite its religious literal meaning, it carries no particular religious weight in everyday speech and is used freely by speakers of all backgrounds.

Used as a self-correction marker mid-speech, signaling that the speaker is walking back or revising what they just said. The equivalent of an audible backspace. Very natural in casual conversation and often accompanied by a slight pause.
