In everyday speech, 'tonto' ranges from a playful tease between close friends to a genuine mild insult depending on tone. It is far softer than stronger insults and is common among kids and siblings.
More forceful than 'tonto' but not vulgar. Used between people who are close enough to be blunt with each other. The speaker is usually expressing genuine frustration or self-criticism.
Literally 'in hiding', but used as a fixed phrase meaning to do something without others knowing, often implying a slight to the person who was kept in the dark. Common across all ages.
A fixed expression. 'Lío' alone means 'mess' or 'trouble', and 'meterse en' means 'to get into', but together as a phrase it is the standard colloquial way to say someone is getting themselves into a mess.
