Ironic use of 'estupendo' (wonderful/great). When someone 'se pone estupendo', they are being sanctimonious or moralistic, not literally wonderful.

Fixed idiomatic phrase. 'La pólvora' is gunpowder; the image is of news or rumour igniting and spreading instantly.

'Bombo' literally means a large drum; 'dar bombo' is to beat the drum loudly for something, i.e. to sensationalise or overpublicise it.

Literally 'to be nail and flesh'. Describes two people so close they are as inseparable as a fingernail from the skin beneath it.

Direct and very aggressive dismissal. Signals a total breakdown of patience or goodwill toward the person addressed.
