Los renglones torcidos de Dios
Alice Gould, a private investigator, pretends to be mentally ill in order to enter a psychiatric hospital and gather evidence for the case she is working on: the death of a patient in unclear circumstances.

Common everyday word for a psychiatric institution, carrying a strongly negative or derogatory connotation. Medical professionals in the dialogue pointedly correct it with 'psiquiátrico' or 'sanatorio'. Using it is not neutral.
Emphatic expression of exhaustion with a situation. Very common in informal male speech and increasingly across genders. The anatomical reference is completely conventionalised and the phrase functions as an intensifier of 'estar harto'.
One of the highest-frequency vulgar interjections. Anatonomically derived but almost fully grammaticalised as a discourse marker or exclamation. Tone ranges from mild annoyance to genuine shock depending on intonation. Very characteristic of informal Castilian speech.
A blasphemous exclamation deeply embedded in colloquial speech. Its shock value has diminished through overuse but it still signals raw, uncontrolled anger. Taboo in formal or religious contexts.
Extremely common and versatile. Can express surprise, irritation, admiration, or emphasis. Its force depends heavily on context and intonation. Considered vulgar in formal settings but ubiquitous in casual conversation.
Literally a sign marking private hunting grounds where entry is prohibited. Used here as an improvised code phrase to signal that a topic is off limits in conversation. A creative register-bending usage that would puzzle learners unfamiliar with the literal expression.
Idiomatic. Literally 'to give a bad swallow/gulp'. Used to describe sparing someone an unpleasant experience. 'Pasar un mal trago' means to go through a difficult time oneself.
